Trumpton logoHere is the clock, the Trumpton clock. Telling the time steadily, sensibly. Never too quickly, never too slowly. Telling the time for Trumpton. Gordon Murray's 1966 series for the BBC, Camberwick Green, was an immediate success and an instant classic, and naturally he was asked to produce a second run of episodes. But, feeling that he had exhausted the possibilities for the village setting of that series, he instead came up with a sequel. Trumpton carried on the style of Camberwick Green, but this time the setting was a busy market town, complete with town hall and resident mayor. There was a whole new cast of characters, including Mrs Lovelace (and her yappy dogs), Chippy Minton the carpenter and, most famously of all, the town fire brigade, whose roll-call ("Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew...

Up Pompeii

Up Pompeii logoWelcome to the Up Pompeii guide at TV Tome. In the vein of and following in the footsteps of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", this bawdy, risque, and hilarious British Comedy is rife with one liners, innuendos, and double entendres, and was the perfect comedy for Britain's mad comedian Frankie Howerd. From his attempt to begin each show with "The Prologue" to his final "Saluté", what occurs in-between is pure Frankie Howerd. The cast around him are his props and his role as the slave Lurcio was one of his finest roles, played to comedic perfection. The series takes place in Pompeii, before the eruption of Vesuvius of course, and relates the day to day trials and tribulations of our star, the slave Lurcio played by Frankie Howerd. The innuendo's begin at once with t...

Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair logo"I am poor and put upon," concedes Becky Sharp during the first episode of Vanity Fair, but it rapidly becomes clear that she intends to change this situation, scrambling up the social ladder by exploiting her guile, good looks and the gullibility of doting males. In the light of her selfish, single-minded resolve to achieve success, Sharp may be viewed as an optimistic dreamer, pragmatic schemer, proto-feminist or a coquettish combination of all three.

Victoria and Albert

Victoria and Albert logoLavish two-part dramatisation of the passionate love story that was Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's lengthy marriage.

Victoria Wood

Victoria Wood logoIt's hard to top such a wonderful series as As Seen On TV - but Victoria Wood's TV follow up was a series of single story episodes covering different situations. In all the episodes she plays a lady called 'Victoria' while she lets all the other people play all the characters. Julie Walters appears in two of the episodes and as always Victoria gives her brilliant lines.
