David E. Kelley's Emmy Award-winning legal drama, The Practice, had eight amazing seasons, with promising, provocative, issue-related stories, coupled with the writer's trademark humor.
Set in Boston, The Practice centers on a firm of passionate attorneys to whom every case is important and every client worth a fight to the end. Legal maneuvering is the firm's modus operandi, and they have it down to a science, making even the most questionable arguments convincing. And while they can't - and don't - win every trial, the pursuit of justice remains the priority until the final verdict is announced … and sometimes afterwards. Pursuing justice, however, often confronts them with serious ethical and moral issues of conscience.
The end of last season saw Bobby Donnell quitting the firm and leaving Eugene Young (Steve Harris) in charge. In the final season, we find Eugene not only tackling his new role as head of the firm, but also the new dynamic with co-workers Ellenor Frutt (Camryn Manheim), a single mom known for her fervent commitment to clients and for refusing to take "no" for an answer; Jimmy Berluti (Michael Badalucco), a hard-working "good guy" with a winning record and unparalleled loyalty to the firm; and a budding relationship with Jamie Stringer (Jessica Capshaw), a young associate recently out of law school.
In addition to returning cast members Manheim, Harris, Badalucco and Capshaw, in the final season, Kelley injected the series with intriguing new characters, including acclaimed film actor James Spader, who will play Alan Shore, a complicated and ethically challenged lawyer, and Rhona Mitra, who will play Tara Wilson, a confident paralegal in her third year of law school who is also the firm's new tough-as-nails assistant.
The multiple Emmy Award-winning drama has also earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Series, a Peabody Award, a Viewers for Quality Television Award, an American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award and, most recently, a coveted Humanitas Award.

Alan Shore hires lawyer Matthew Billings (of Crane, Poole & Schnmidt) to represent him in his unlawful dismissal action against Young, Frutt and Berluti. In this episode, we meet Denny Crane (played by William Shatner) and thus set up the elements that will morph into ""Boston Legal"" next season. Ellenor loses her case, but the judge hands down such an intentionally harsh sentence that we all know the verdict will be reversed on appeal. Shore wins a preliminary hearing against Young, and the case will move on.

The office is thrown into turmoil when Ellenor's client Leonard Sowers rushes through the door with policemen giving chase and throws a bag of heroin onto her desk. Ellenor is arrested for possession of the heroin. A proximity search of her desk turns up a bloodied knife which turns out to be the weapon used to murder Susan Robins. The firm is dealt a surprise when Dickie Flood charges Ellenor with first degree murder. Lindsay & Ellenor bury the hatchet when Lindsay takes over her defense. The police, hoping to make another case for the murder, arrest George Vogelman for concealing a murder weapon and perjury. Meanwhile, Bobby defends Judge Kittleson when she's sued by a former clerk claiming sexual harassment. Jimmy is mesmerized by Judge Kittleson's frank sexual discussion.

He successfully defended Steven Frenault, charged with the knife-point armed robbery of a professional photographer who testified he had ""absolute certainty"" about his identification of Frenault as the perpetrator. Eugene not only took the court-assigned case to trial; he also took a couple of side bets on his own powers as a cross examiner. And, in much the same manner as the legendary Babe Ruth used to telegraph his home runs, Eugene came back with the speedy not-guilty verdict that he'd forecast. The only thing that gave Eugene pause was his own cynicism. He hardly took the time even to get to know his client before the trial started, and he never stopped to consider the possibility that Steven Frenault might indeed be innocent. SYNOPSIS OF THIRD EPISODE This episode was a contrast in emotions, from extreme gravity, to moments of levity, with some hard-ball tossed in for good measure. It began with the introduction of new client Dr. Gerald Braun and his wife Roberta. Their daughter Donna had been violently killed by Ronald Martin, who is claiming he was temporarily insane. Martin had been Donna's boy friend, but she was trying to break it off. The trial, in which the beleaguered prosecutor Borgue must cross examine the priest who has testified for Martin, has been a grueling ordeal for the Brauns. It shows most on Dr. Braun. His outbursts of hostility are frequent. Bobby will handle the civil lawsuit for wrongful death against the defendant, once the criminal trial is over. We got to see how they cover for each other, how they back each other up. Ellenor began with an appearance on behalf of ""Free Willy,"" a repeat offender on an indecent exposure charge. Then she passed ""Free Willy"" off to Eugene, who had just rescued Office Manager Rebecca from the early advances of client Cruickshank the check-passer. Ellenor then went on to back Bobby up as second chair in the defense of Rachel Reynolds, which became the principal trial of the hour. In the Reynolds case, we saw Bobby Donnell under maximum pressure, terrified by having to defend seventeen year-old Rachel Reynolds on a cocaine possession charge that would have sent her to prison for a minimum of fifteen years. He was able to coax an acquittal out of a case in which the state proved that Rachel had custody and control of over a hundred thousand dollars worth of street-pac
