This sitcom blasted onto TV sets in 1984 on CBS, and it and ABC's "Who's the Boss?," starring Tony Danza, both seemed similar. Except for one thing: Charles in Charge left the air the next year. Starring Scott Baio ("Happy Days") and Willie Aames ("Eight is Enough"). In 1987, the show returned to airwaves, except with a replacement family, the Powells. With stars like Nicole Eggert ("Baywatch") and Ellen Travolta ("Happy Days"), John Travolta's sister, who played star Chachi's (Scott Baio) mother in "Happy Days" and now in "Charles in Charge." It lasted three and a half seasons in first run syndicaton, so there will not be any airdates for 1987-1990, if any! "Charles in Charge" was on Nick at Nite from August 16th, 2002 to April 4, 2003. It currently is not airing (Updated: May 30, 2003). Charles in Charge was also on TBS/WGN in the 90s/early 2000s. It currently airs nationally in Canada however on CTS.

When Walter(James Callahan)announces that he is going to Washington, D.C. with Ellen to pick his son so that he can visit his kids and to make sure that Jamie(Nicole Eggert), Sarah(Josie Davis)and Adam(Alexander Polinsky)he leaves Charles in Charge once again. Charles receives a phone call from his mother saying that she forgot to drop off Aunt Sally's(Ellen Travolta)birthday present, so Charles has to give it to her in person and be back at the house no later than 6:00, when he realizes that his Aunt Sally's Car Wash is in deep financial trouble, and that she has no choice but to fire Bobby(Rodney Eastman), Spider(Jeff Davis), Tyrone(Billy ""Sly"" Williams)and Arthur(Jack Bannon). Sarah(Josie Davis)is concerned about animal testing at Copeland College where Charles(Scott Baio)goes, he has heard nothing about experimenting on animals so he goes to the College and sees the Head of the Science Department Stanley Willard(Ben Stein)when last they say him he was in a psychiatric hospital, he then confirms that they are doing experiments on a few monkeys, Sarah wins the bet that she made with Charles and that he has to lock himself in a cage to protest animal testing. Lillian(Ellen Travolta)offers her diner for the protest so Charles can later take Sarah, Jamie(Nicole Eggert)and Adam(Alexander Polinsky)to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The children are doing every thing with her in stead of Charles. Buddy thinks she is trying to take Charles' place. So Charles hides the string of Pearls in a trophe in his downstairs room. He told Mr. Powell that when the baby-sitter was there. So when he went down it wasn't their. Jamie is at the top of the steps and in the living room she sees the baby-sitter putting the necklace under the sofa. The next day when day when Grandfather Powell wants the neclace, Charles tries to make up excuses and the old baby-sitter is looking under the sofa and it is not there. Sara, Jamie, and Adam come down with it wrapped. The reason the Old babysitter did that was because she wanted her job back.

Confused by the pidgin instructions that came with a new stereo component rack, Charles is frustrated trying to assemble the unit. Meanwhile, a 14 year-old fast talker named Mark (ADAM CARL), who's been dating Sarah (JOSIE DAVIS), can't resist asking Jamie (NICOLE EGGERT) out. The girls eventually find out, war is declared, and guess who gets the blame? Since the good Commander is far away, serving in the Western Pacific for another six months, Lieutenant Matty Whiteford (Stephen Parr) comes to keep Ellen Powell (Sandra Kerns) and the kids company for a weekend. Unfortunately, company isn't all he tries to keep, and Charles doesn't like it. Charles confides to Walter (James Callahan), who being an old seadog doesn't understand Charles' suspicions since a Naval officer is always honorable, etc. But when Charles and Walter are hospitalized overnight with a case of food poisoning brought on by tasting contaminated clams, Matty moves in. His campaign to capture Ellen Powell's affection is first subtlety slowed by the three kids and then abruptly terminated by Ellen's own left hook. With almost anyone else that would be a minor imposition, but with Buddy it's a major emergency. What really aggravates the situation is that Charles is about to have a date with Lauren Andrews (Maylo McCaslin in), a girl who could easily become that ""someone special"" in Charles"" life. To make matters even worse Lauren can't stand Buddy. And there's Buddy, getting in the way, when Charles would rather be alone. But there's a catch - Lauren is starring in the school play with Buddy and she confides to Charles that she hopes Buddy stays sick forever so he will be replaced. Jill and Stan Pembroke are a working couple whose uncertain schedules propel them into hiring a nineteen-year-old college student, Charles, to move in and help them with their three children: Lila 14; Douglas, 12; and Jason, 10. It appears Charles has the perfect arrangement while he attends school and does some growing of his own with the helpful advice of his best friend, Buddy Lembeck. Charles becomes ecstatic when his dream girl, Gwendolyn Pierce, a campus beauty, accepts a date with him. However, Jill and Stan have to go out for the night, leaving Charles in charge.
