Ashes to Ashes is a British science fiction/police procedural drama television series, serving as the sequel to Life on Mars. The series began transmission on BBC One in February 2008. A second series began broadcasting in April 2009. A third and final series is being broadcast from 2 April 2010 on BBC One and BBC HD. The series tells the fictional story of Alex Drake (played by Keeley Hawes), a female police officer in service with London's Metropolitan Police who is shot in 2008, and inexplicably regains consciousness in 1981. The series' first episode reveals that in the present day, Drake has been studying records of the events seen in Life on Mars. Upon waking in the past, she is shocked to meet returning character Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister), of whom she has learned from her research. Throughout the series, it is ambiguous to both Drake and the audience whether the character is dead or alive in the present day.

Watch Ashes to Ashes - Series 3, Episode 7 Jim Keats has almost finished his report into Gene and his team, but he's still pushing Alex to find out what really happened to Sam Tyler. When reports come in of a disturbance at an illegal drinking den, Gene goes in all guns blazing. The men at the club dismiss the disturbance as nothing, but when Ray spots blood on the floor and discovers a body, it leads Gene into a murder investigation.
Watch Ashes to Ashes - Series 3, Episode 6 All hell has broken loose at Fenchurch East prison; the inmates are rioting and Gene is ready to go in all guns blazing to teach the lags a lesson. However, things don't go to plan; the riot team are hugely outnumbered, and in the chaos of the retreat Sgt Viv James is left behind. Chris and Ray are sent in undercover to get Viv out, but they too soon find themselves in mortal danger.
Watch Ashes to Ashes - Series 3, Episode 5 When Gene Hunt's former Manchester colleagues, DCI Litton and DI Bevan, turn up on his patch he immediately smells a rat. They're in pursuit of northern comic Frank Hardwick who's wanted for stealing £2,000 from the Police Widows Fund. However, Gene and Alex are suspicious of their real motive.
