Set in the brutal world of gladiators, "Spartacus" is inspired by the real-life story of the legendary slave of the
Roman Republic, who in 73 B.C. led a revolt consisting of 73 slaves. While the story will focus on building
Spartacus’ army, the sub-plot will highlight the love he has for his wife Sura, from whom he is separated. As
a slave sentenced to become a Gladiator, Spartacus turns on his owner and leads the other captives in a
rebellion as they move from town to town. Within a year, he amasses his army of more than 120,000 men
fighting for freedom. Defying the Roman Republic's legions of soldiers, they campaigned for two years
through much of what is now Italy before succumbing to a much larger army.
