Today we have a guest recap/review from Andy Johnson.

We're nearing the end of 2012, which means we're that much closer to a momentous calendar event: the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season three! It has been a long six months since we witnessed the after effects of the Battle of the Blackwater and we still have a few more months to go before we experience "the great war…between death and life, ice and fire."

"Game of Thrones" season two gave us a cornucopia content to feast upon. For those of you who may have missed an episode or have forgotten some of the delectable storylines, here's a quick recap of what went down.

Due to the untimely death murder of King Robert, the once-solidified Seven Kingdoms has crumbled into several factions, threatening to plunge the Kingdoms into a massive civil war. Robert's teenaged terror of a son, Joffrey Baratheon, currently holds the Iron Throne. However, Robert's brothers, Stannis and Renly, have both laid claim to the throne after learning the truth about Joffrey's parentage. While most in the Seven Kingdoms believe Joffrey is the son of Robert and his wife, Cersei Lannister, Joffrey is actually a bastard of incest, fathered by Cersei's twin brother, Jaime Lannister. Stannis and Renly each demand allegiance of the other and separately gather their forces to take the throne.

Renly is deemed the rightful king with the support of the powerful House Tyrell of Highgarden; he further solidifies this alliance by marrying Margaery Tyrell, the sister of his lover, Loras Tyrell. Renly quickly gathers an army of 100,000 men for his claim to the throne while Stannis takes council from mysterious Red Priestess, Melisandre. As the brothers vie for the throne, Tyrion Lannister goes to King's Landing to try to help manage the chaos, only to be thwarted by his devious sister, Cersei, acting Queen Regent.

In the North, Robb Stark, eldest son of Eddard (Ned) Stark, has declared himself King in the North after the brutal beheading of his father at the cruel hands of King Joffrey. Robb is a powerful force on the battlefield and earns the nickname "The Young Wolf" after his victories against the Lannister army. Realizing he needs more support, Robb sends his best friend and ward of his father, Theon Greyjoy, to engage in negotiations with his father, Balon Greyjoy, who happens to be forming plans of his own to take the throne. He then sends his mother, Catelyn, to strike an alliance with Renly Baratheon.

Game of Thrones season 2 recap

In the distant East, Daenerys Targaryen has hatched three baby dragons who, when full grown, will be able destroy anything in their path on her command. With her husband dead and many of her forces gone, she must find a way back to the Seven Kingdoms to reclaim the Iron Throne.

Meanwhile, the Night's Watch has traveled beyond the Wall to search for missing rangers and investigate allegations that the previously anarchic wildlings are united under a King Beyond the Wall. This journey proves to be a rite of passage for Ned Stark's bastard son, Jon Snow.

With the "Game of Thrones" season three teaser trailer "Ice vs. Fire" surfacing last week(check it out below), rumors and speculation of what the new season holds abound.

  • Will "The Young Wolf" tear Joffrey to pieces?
  • Will Daenerys make it to the Seven Kingdoms with her baby dragons?
  • Will the whitewalkers make it past the wall?
  • Will Brienne see Jamie safely to Kings Landing?
  • Will Jon Snow pair off with his wildling crush?
  • Will Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark really get married?

For answers to these questions, tune into the third season of "Game of Thrones," premiering March 31, 2013.
