Meredith wakes up to a whole new world. "What If" she goes down the stairs and finds her mother alive and her father is Weber and they go off to work together. Meredith’s mother is chief resident at Seattle Grace and Owen and Torres are married.

They have three kids and Arizona and Callie are at odds in the boardroom. Bailey is almost invisible. Bailey does not speak up and is overwhelmed by Ellis Gray. But Grey puts pressure on Derek to perform more and produce better results. Ellis takes Bailey’s surgery.

Owen has had PTSD but Callie says to Addison he talks to work buddies to tell him to get over the hump. She thinks Teddy is a guy. There is more than a hint of something between Owen and Christina

Addison is pregnant and married to Derek. Seattle Grace is still intact and then Ellis Grey is the Chief resident and Weber and Grey are married. Meredith gets an engagement ring. Yang and Meredith are not friends. Alex is a nerd.  He wears glasses and is preppy. Meredith is called Dr. Weber and she is engaged to Alex.

April is supposedly hung up on Lurch, who is still alive. He mentions her crush on Alex in the past. A coke-head found in an alley is actually Lexie, and she lands on Avery’s table. She has dreadlocks and nose rings. She says her father killed himself and her mother died of cancer.

Ellis asks Meredith to get into the cardio surgery. But Ellis says she can’t get the surgery because Yang is doing a whip stitch. Ellis chides Meredith for needing her help. Meredith is both criticized for not being at the top and not elbowing her way in.

Avery interviews Lexie about her family history. She says she has a sister who is a  doctor. Cristina says that she enjoyed so much cocaine she is messed up. The surgery is a drag for Cristina who wants to do the flashy stuff. Lexie has ratted dreadlocks and multiple face and nose rings.

Addison finds Kepner screwing up on a delivery. The head presents with difficulty. Shepherd comes into the surgery room. April blurts out the head is monstrous and the mother hears this and freaks out. Shepherd and Montgomery-Shepherd exchange a glance. Derek mouths his mantra "It’s a good day to save lives, people".

The baby has a tumor. Derek works fast to operate. The head was blocking the delivery in the canal. But now surgery. April says the Shepherds are the  best surgical team ever. But Addison picks at Derek about how he lives in his trailer and is never around. He lives in the house he will never build.

Cristina tells Owen she isn’t giving up a surgery to stick a pacemaker in a junkie. Owen tells Cristina she has to operate and when Cristina argues he gets irritated then frustrated, then cracks a glass window and everyday turn to stare Cristina comes into a office and helps Owen.

Alex refuses to face up to his future mother in law by admitting Bailey told him of weakness. He is weak. Bailey cannot admit to Grey that she told Alex of the patient’s compromised system. Bailey is fired. Ellis has invited press people to grandstand her Gray method.

Where she cuts open, Ellis unexpectedly finds the complicated fibers and becomes angry. But she plans Alex's and Meredith’s wedding plans during the procedure. In the middle of the surgery Alex refuses to relay that Dr. Bailey told him about the patient's iliac veins.

Owen confronts Avery. The dispensary was accessed with his ID card and a lot of drugs taken. Avery realizes Lexie soft soaped him Mark Sloane brings back into the hospital the body of Lexie who was lying in the street. She has overdosed.

Addison calls the clinical trial one more reason for Derek to stay out of the house. Addison asks if he wants this baby with her and if he loves her. The people in the hospital watch as she questions him. Addison really questions Derek’s commitment to her. Does he love her or the baby? Derek mouths the words.

"Can you say it without looking at the floor?" He does not look up. Later Ellis Grey tells Derek to keep his dirty laundry at home. Derek says there are two sides to every story and she says she doesn’t want to know his side. Ellis criticises Derek as an executive who let the troops see him weak.

Meredith asks for advice to get Cristina’s surgery. Meredith has fallen off competitive surgeries. Weber recalls a time she fell off when learning to ride a bike. Weber says her mother made her to get back on the bike. Meredith charges over to Callie to demand  place in her surgery.

At lunch they remember Izzie and O‘Malley as washouts. Preston Burke apparently got scared of Yang and left. Yang sits alone, practicing surgery. Meredith tries to pull her mother’s rank on Callie.

"My mother suggested that I ask you". Callie suggests she go with Yang. After Callie assents, Bailey and Callie discuss how Ellis Grey is the star of the show at Seattle Grace and runs the surgical opportunities for research.

But after Meredith pushes her way into the surgery, Torres loses control. Callie assigns Meredith the lead midway in and Cristina loses her temper. Yang takes over and Meredith is angry and feels humiliated. Both mother and daughter come to Weber with the same emotional needs. But Ellis criticises Meredith for not being aggressive enough.

Cristina is attacked verbally in the residents locker room by Meredith, who assets she elbowed her out of the surgery in bad for. Cristina gets ganged up on and then Meredith make personal remarks about Burke.

Cristina instantly reveals Alex and April are sleeping together. Meredith turns to see what she is talking about and Alex fakes it but April comes apart. Meredith stares in shock and runs out. her mother the criticizes her for letting the power struggle be an open loss in the residents locker room.

Bailey gets fired. She catches Alex crying in the elevator. She asks what is wrong. He screwed up. Bailey says why is he crying she got fired. They ironically trade Ellis' success mantra about destiny.

Meanwhile Cristina and Meredith work to save Lexie and make a good team. But later Meredith asks for advice to get Cristina’s surgery. Weber says her mother made her to get back on the bike.

At lunch they remember Izzie and O‘Malley as washouts. Preston Burke apparently got scared of Yang and left. Yang sits alone, practicing surgery. Meredith and Alex remember O'Malley  as 007.  Meredith pushes her presence n the whip stitch aortic procedure.

Meredith turns to see what she is talking about and Alex fakes it but April comes apart. Meredith stares in shock and runs out.

Meredith meets Weber and says she can’t handle being around the mother anymore.
Meredith tells Weber that Ellis needs everyone around her to be small. Meredith says she won’t let her do it to me.

Derek says all he knows is that the baby is coming. Then she says the baby is not his. Then Mark Sloane comes out. Derek looks at Addison and realizes whose baby it is. He walks out.

Cristina and Meredith drink and then Meredith is left at the bar drinking with Derek. Meredith says to him that they call him "McDreary". They call each other a boy and girl in a bar.

About the author tvqueen

tvqueen

I like to watch TV shows from classic eras as well as contemporary drama and comedy. Science Fiction is fun, and shows like the Cape and Fringe keep hope alive that the medium that produced Space 1999 is alive. Comedy such as 30 Rock is usually, good, but not always. I like Survivor but it has so little to do with survivor skills I am disappointed. Appointment viewing is Grey's Anatomy, NCIS LA, The CSI series for New York and Las Vegas and Miami, with a special shout out for the new Hawaii Five O. Gordon Ramsay's Hells Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares are top of the line viewing for the drama comedy Gordon's character and the business lessons they teach.
