Castle - An Embarrassment of Bitches - recap main image

Castle starts to get empty nest syndrome flashes when Alexis announces a campus hopping trip with friends. Meanwhile a show dog contest judge Pilar is found dead. Castle makes witty remarks and notices that a sexy, high profile young actress/model Kay Capuccio is capturing the attention of Esposito, who snaps at his ex on the case.

Castle says the master Pilar was not so good with people. A man whose dog lost has filed a suit. The choice of best in show was not well awarded. They question the celebrity model. She knew the deceased and saw him shortly before his death. But her image is everything so she fled the scene of the crime. Castle notices the dog making digging motions with his paws. The dead man was paranoid and used electronic spy detection devices.

The model is interviewed by Beckett, who does not watch reality shows. They must part her for questioning from her finance and manager who stands aside. She confesses to seeing the man dead in his hotel room but left to get in her limo to avoid bad press.

Her dog Lolita needed treatment and Pilar refused to work with her dog. Esposito is transfixed but they find a mini camera in her dog's collar. Kay is intrigued by the “exposure”. Ryan finds cash deposits in the dead man's bank accounts. He had a psychotherapist. Beckett orders a scan put on all Kay's web shots to see who was following her when and where.

They trace it to a paparazzi who listened in on what the dead man was doing, and he says it was bad stuff. He wanted the goods on Kay not the dog show runner. He says the signal for the secret video feed just magically came on his camera. He needed to get better equipment to capture the video. Meanwhile Pilar talked about heavy deals about street value and shipments and major cities.

Castle likes the look of the dead man's dog, Royal, a handsome red setter with beautiful coat. He says the precinct needs a mascot, and many people comment they think Castle in the department's mascot. Castle asks to babysit the dog. So does Bennett, surprisingly and they agree to share custody. The paps take picture of Castle until they realizes he is not Jason Bateman. (This is what the star of the show normally has happen to him).

Beckett is agog to learn that Pilar was taking his dog for therapy. Meanwhile they trace the reality star's connection to the drug cartels. She has been a guest in their home and Beckett notices the dog pick up on the poppy flower in the perfume she is launching. Linking the money to the drug cartel is what will identify the killer.

Other contestants who did not win say the dead man was on the take and awarded the prizes to long shots that men from Vegas could gain hefty payoffs from. Castle admires how slick the operation is because the IRS isn't looking into bets on dog shows for hiding cash. The dead man's travel schedule show ports of call in major port cities across the United States for drugs. Ryan says the electronic bug sweeper found on the dead man means he was extra paranoid.

They use his cellphone to trace his movements.  Castle and Bennett find a dark lab with kennels and German Shepherd guarding it and empty cages. A man comes out of the shadows and says that the deceased man was breeding a special kind of dog,  show winner for sure and people, were throwing money at him for the dogs. later they find out this was an operation with the U. S. Treasury to train special drug sniffing dogs and the breeding was a cover story. The bug detector tracks Kay and her dog's collar. But the interviews reveal a woman devoid of enough scheming to run a drug operation. Castle and Beckett talk to the customs officer working with the dead man. He was training the dogs to detect drugs. He was paranoid and wondered who “she” could be working with.

While questioning the star, they track the cartel connection to her fiancée. He tries to run but the dog runs him down. The fiancée went to school with one of the cartel family young men and organized her perfume shipments to carry drugs.  Castle and Beckett are plunged into despair when the dog decides to go with the reality TV star.

tvqueen

I like to watch TV shows from classic eras as well as contemporary drama and comedy. Science Fiction is fun, and shows like the Cape and Fringe keep hope alive that the medium that produced Space 1999 is alive. Comedy such as 30 Rock is usually, good, but not always. I like Survivor but it has so little to do with survivor skills I am disappointed. Appointment viewing is Grey's Anatomy, NCIS LA, The CSI series for New York and Las Vegas and Miami, with a special shout out for the new Hawaii Five O. Gordon Ramsay's Hells Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares are top of the line viewing for the drama comedy Gordon's character and the business lessons they teach.
