The BBC has confirmed that a new theme tune and title sequence will be debuted during the Doctor Who Christmas special.

This may seem a touch unnecessary but before you round up your fellow Whovians and march on Broadcasting House; the BBC also stated that the new title sequence will be “wonderfully dramatic and striking” while also dubbing the revamped theme tune as "thrilling", "powerful" and "scary", however still retaining elements of Ron Grainer’s 1963 original.

The episode entitled The Snowmen will also see Jenna-Louise Coleman make her first appearance as the Doctor’s latest companion, Clara.

On top of that The Snowmen will give us our first glimpse of the TARDIS’s new interior.

I, like many Doctor Who fans was quite irked at the BBC’s decision to stagger the run of the series to only five episodes in 2012 but head writer Steven Moffat promises to have “gone all-out” with the forthcoming eight new episodes scheduled for 2013.

Doctor Who's 'The Snowmen' will air at 5.15pm on December 25th
