On Saturday, May 21, 2011, Saturday Night Live made history with the largest finale they’ve had in fifteen years and the credit goes to a double whammy lineup that featured Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga.  Overall, NBC reported 28% growth since the previous year’s finale and has seen a 29% growth in total viewership.

Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake appeared in a number of skits and the overall rating was a 3.7 with a 14 share in metered market household averages, according to a statement by NBC.  It was the highest rating since May 21, 2005.  An episode hosted by Lindsay Lohan also scored a 3.7 rating and on May 14, 2004, the Olsten Twins scored a 4.2 rating, beating out Lindsay Lohan, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga.  There were 9.8 million total viewers for the Justin and Gaga finale

NBC announced that two episodes of SNL hosted by Jim Carrey beat out the Gaga, Timberlake duo.  Jim Carey and Soundgarden hosted on May 18, 1986 and garnered a whopping 10 million viewers.  Jim Carrey hosted again on January 8, 2011 with musical guest “The Black Keys” and totaled 11.5 million viewers in total.  It was during that episode that Jim Carey performed his infamous “Black Swan” dance that became a viral hit.
