American Idol top 5 revealed: Casey Abrams sent home a second time main image

On April 27, 2011, American Idol saw the performances of six contestants who performed songs from Grammy Award singer/songwriter Carole King.  Each contestant sang a solo, followed by a duet which also consisted of hits by Carole King.  The top six consisted of Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart.  Casey Abrams sang “Hi De Ho” as well as a duet with Haley to “I Feel The Earth Move.”  Haley chose the song “Beautiful” for her duet, choosing to tone down the growl and gave it a classic jazz feel.

Jacob Lusk showcased his powerful voice and superb range by singing “Oh No Not My Baby.”  He then teamed up with James Durbin for a powerful duet, “I’m Into Something Good.”  James then gave a stirring rendition of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.”  Lauren Alaina pushed herself vocally and sang “Where You Lead.”  She and Scotty delivered a country flavored rendition of “Up On The Roof.”

On April 28, 2011, the results were revealed and there was plenty of tension as Ryan announced who would be going home.  To many surprised voters, it was Casey Abrams who received the lowest number of  votes. It was the second time that Casey Abrams had been voted off the show as the judges used their one save for the season on Casey previously.

The results show was highlighted by special performances by Crystal Bowersox and Bruno Mars.

The top five are as follows:

Lauren Alaina

James Durbin

Jacob Lusk
