On April 11, 2011, NBC announced that Steve Carell will air his final episode on The Office and the episode will last 50 minutes.  As the world prepares to say goodbye to Michael Scott, there is still great speculation regarding who will take charge of Dunder Mifflin on a full time basis.  Will Ferrell will make several appearances but at this point in time, NBC has not announced that Ferrell will join the cast on a permanent basis and it is unclear who will take Carell’s place next season.

Will Ferrell will appear on at least four episodes of The Office and is no stranger to NBC as the comedic actor got his start on Saturday Night Live.  Paul Lieberstien, who serves as executive producer of The Office and also plays Toby Flenderson released a statement regarding Will Ferrell’s appearance.  “We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star.  We are proud to continue The Office’s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see, tremendous raw sexuality.”

Steve Carell’s final episode will air on April 28, 2011 from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm ET.
