American Idol was full of surprises on Thursday, March 24, 2011.  The top 11 contestants had sang their favorite Motown hits and on Wednesday’s performance show and approximately 30 million viewers cast their votes for their favorite contestant.  During Thursday’s results show, fans (and the judges) were surprised to see soulful artist Casey Abrams voted off the show.  As Casey performed his rendition of “I don’t need no Doctor,” the judges quickly cut him off and told him they didn’t need to hear him sing.

Casey appeared as if he was experiencing severe heart palpitations when birthday boy, Steven Tyler announced they would use the season’s one save on Casey.

Because the judges used the save several things will go into effect.  On Thursday, March 31, 2011, two contestants will be voted off the show.  Before Thursday’s show ended, host Ryan Seacrest announced that it had been predetermined that all 11 contestants would take part in the American Idol tour.  Though two will leave the show this week, brining the contestants down to nine, each of the current contestants has made it to the tour.
